Playing this again. This trailer is pretty great, especially at about 1:37 when the Dreadnaught busts through the rock. “I have come to destroy you.” Fantastic.
I really love Warhammer 40k. The aesthetic vision of it is amazing: dark and brutal, but grandiose and gripping. I wish that playing the tabletop game didn’t require one to be an artist, ‘cause I just don’t have the patience/ability to paint the figures. My fun has been curtailed by my lack of ability! (Story of my life.)
Why is Dawn of War (and Warhammer 40k in general) so great? Because you’ll be playing along and grab some random equipment drop during a mission, and then when you read the description later, it’s just a gem of grim wonder:
“Gauntlet of Blood: After the extended campaign on Kronus, young Sergeant Karolus was granted a battlefield commendation after reports of his heroism reached his company’s leadership. When his powerfist’s field generator failed, he fought on undaunted — and when he returned, it had the blood of every Xeno race encountered upon it. The power field has since been reactivated, and has never since failed, but the blood was left upon the gauntlet in his honor.”

Powerfists for the win.
